Living in student accommodation is a great experience, and it also comes with the responsibility of keeping your space clean, tidy and organized. After all, a well-kept environment promotes concentration, mental well-being and a better quality of life.

Keeping your apartment clean when you're a student

The first step to keeping your student apartment clean is to create a regular cleaning schedule. Schedule specific times during the week to carry out different tasks such as sweeping, mopping floors, dusting, laundry and cleaning the bathroom and WC. The more regular the cleaning, the easier and quicker it will be, and the less you'll be overwhelmed!

Get rid of anything superfluous!

In a student studio, space is limited, so it's essential to sort out and get rid of anything you don't need. This will free up space and make your studio easier to clean and organize.

Our cleaning TIPS

Clean the kitchen regularly

The kitchen is one of the most important areas to maintain in a student apartment. Be sure to clean the countertop, sink and appliances after every use. Don't let dirty dishes accumulate, and avoid leaving food leftovers for too long to prevent pests and unpleasant odors.

Clean the floor regularly

Sweep or vacuum the floor regularly to remove debris and crumbs. Sweep the room with a damp mop, using a cleaning product appropriate for the type of floor you're cleaning.

Clean the bathroom

The bathroom is a room that needs special attention. Clean the sink, shower and toilet regularly. Use a disinfectant cleaner to eliminate bacteria and germs. Make sure you keep towels and bath mats clean and wash them regularly.

Dusting surfaces

Dust can quickly accumulate on surfaces such as shelves, furniture and picture frames, for example. Use a damp cloth or feather duster to remove dust at least once a week. This will improve the air quality in your studio.

Ventilate your studio

Make sure your studio is well ventilated to prevent the build-up of moisture and mold. Open windows regularly to circulate fresh air.

As an added bonus, use eco-friendly, low-cost cleaning products such as white vinegar, baking soda or black soap.

In some of our FAC-HABITAT student residences, we make cleaning kits available to tenants on loan. Don't hesitate to ask your maintenance manager for any such requests.
